Today we celebrate Nunavut, Canada’s newest territory, officially created on July 9, 1999. Nunavut was established through the determination and resilience of Inuit, recognizing Inuit land rights and self-governance after generations of advocacy.

For Inuit, this day is about celebrating our culture, our language, our communities, and the strength of our ancestors who helped make this historic milestone possible.
