WHAT is going on Ontario???? This makes me angry. This is not developmentally appropriate. Canada has been praised for its play based approach to kindergarten. From the many books I’ve read on the topic it all points to the same conclusion - early is not better. It doesn’t lead to better „results”

Check out the book „The Most Important Year” by Suzanne Bouffard where she rips apart the US push to early academics and praises other countries (like Canada!) for their play based approach.

Perhaps our „poor academic results” have less to do with 5 year olds not doing fractions and more to do with the global trauma and social isolation we experienced with the 2020 pandemic.

Kindergarteners need to be playing. Kindergarten should be child-lead. Language arts should be listening to mother goose rhymes. They have their whole lives to learn grammar and solve math equations.

I am beyond grateful to homeschool my kids, but also very angry for the children going into this new curriculum. I’ll always be a proponent for accessible developmentally appropriate public education and this ain’t it.
