History of Tea
Ancient China

Tea first developed as a medicinal drink before becoming a daily beverage. During the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE), tea culture flourished throughout China. The preparation, appreciation, and serving of tea became an art form.

One of the most important tea books ever written, The Classic of Tea by Lu Yu, was published during this period. Lu Yu is often called the “Sage of Tea” because his work documented tea cultivation, preparation, utensils, and tea philosophy.

Tea in Japan

Tea was introduced to Japan by Buddhist monks who traveled to China. The Japanese tea ceremony evolved into a highly respected cultural tradition centered around mindfulness, simplicity, harmony, and respect.

Matcha, a powdered green tea, became especially important in Japanese tea culture and Zen Buddhist practices. To be continued.
