CW: discussions of residential schools, settler colonialism, institutional violence, colonial violence, childhood sexual violence, gender based violence and more
Today is Orange Shirt Day, or the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours and remembers survivors, victims, and anyone who was impacted by Residential Schools and their lasting, harmful legacies.
PEARS operates on the traditional land of the Huron-Wendy, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. This land was stolen from Indigenous people and dispossessed Indigenous people and communities through violent racialized and gender processes.
It is important to centre Indigenous peoples, perspectives, and knowledges as we continue to occupy this land. Challenging and breaking down gendered violence innately requires challenging and questioning of settler colonial systems and violence - violent gendered processes are entrenched with settler colonial, historically and in present day.

UofTâs Sexual Violence Policy Review Team sent out an email to members of the UofT community for feedback on the âPolicyâ. The anonymous feedback form is open until Oct 7th.
You can find PEARS recommendations via our linktree in our three different policy review documents. The Policy is flawed and does not currently adequately support survivors - we urge all community members who are able to share feedback to push for change. Feedback can be submitted at uoft.me/SeptSVSH
