Today we are using statistics captured and made publicly available by the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP)! In the 2022-23 school year, the NCES conducted the NAEP long-term trend (LTT) reading and math assessments for 13-year-old students. The average scores decreased by 4 points in reading and 9 points in math compared to the 2019-20 assessment. Over the past decade, average scores dropped by 7 points in reading and 14 points in math.
