We are looking for a Sound/ Production Artist!

We have recently completed the first phase of the project, a series of 11 workshops in which artists uncovered their migration journeys amidst emotional and physical landscapes, as well as navigated some of the complexities of their identity through a sonic exploration. Through this process each artist was able to produce the first draft of a sound map pertaining to their unique story and experiences. As we transition into our production phase and eventual exhibition, we are looking to bring on board a Sound/ Production Artist to support us in the ex*****on of the next phase of the project.

Requirements:
- experience with sound production and design
- comfortable working with various audio softwares and
technology
- experience with audio-visual/digital storytelling
- experience working on community driven projects
- ability to commit to an intensive production phase for 5
days in October as well as do preliminary work with the
team before production begins.

Responsibilities:
- providing one-on-one consultation to 5 artists on their
sound maps, primarily providing technical support in the
areas of mixing, editing sound and realization of concept
behind the sound narrative.
- facilitating 1-2 group sessions to develop artists' technical
abilities further, build upon knowledge of audio
storytelling and enable sharing of ideas
- collaborating with the facilitators from the first phase of
the project
- attending team meetings and documenting feedback for
artists
- possible collaboration with Soundtography team and
artists in the planning for the eventual
exhibition/installation

Visualization is a common practice when recalling our memories; the spotty neighbourhood dog or the big slide from the playground might come to mind quickly. By taking the time to reflect on the sounds we associate with these memories we can add a new dimension to our stories.

Our facilitator Maya led us through a mapping exercise, getting us to map out a familiar space or path from memory and place sounds associated with different points onto our maps.
Take a moment to try this at home! What sounds stick with you? What significance do these sounds have? Are they tied to particular emotions? People? Places?
If you try this exercise we’d love to hear about your process and creation! Feel free to share in the comments or a private message! . .

We are reaching out to Indigenous artists to participate in Soundtography and join our group of 11 artists, for a series of artistic meditative workshops t using the unique medium of sound to explore our narratives of displacement, migration, and womanhood.

Through the workshops participants will build on the following knowledge and skills:

- Extensive sound training from experienced facilitators to identify and record sounds as well as analyze and edit sounds to eventually create a sound map reflective of the layers of each participants journey.

- Immersion in an environment with the opportunity to foster connections with a diverse group of artists and experience healing practices from various cultural contexts.

Participants will also be provided with sound recording equipment, transport compensation, as well as a opportunity for a free yearly membership with Charles Street Video.

These workshops are meant to be a training, and artists are being compensated through the different aspects mentioned above, however we plan on having a production phase and eventual exhibition in which artists will be paid if they choose to exhibit their work with the project.

We have been able to successfully fill the spots we have for migrant artists and we now have an amazing group of 11 artists from various backgrounds who are part of this journey.

However, as understanding displacement and identity layers on this land cannot be fully realized without participation of and collaboration with Indigenous artists, we are continuing to leave one spot open for an Indigenous womxn artist. We are hoping to fill this spot this week.
