Pilot and Passenger Survive Light Plane Crash on Sydney Golf Course

Two people have walked away with only minor injuries after their light aircraft crash-landed on Mona Vale Golf Course in Sydney’s northern beaches this afternoon.
The single-engine Piper Cherokee was on a training flight when it experienced engine failure midair. The men had taken off from Camden, flying around Sydney’s western outskirts before heading north. After losing power near Palm Beach, air traffic control directed them toward Long Reef, but they were unable to reach it.
The aircraft made an emergency landing on the golf course around 2:20 PM, skidding to a stop near the fairway. Emergency crews arrived quickly, confirming both occupants suffered only minor injuries despite the impact.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the engine failure.

Emirates Cargo Plane Crashes During Landing at Hong Kong Airport

A Boeing 747-481 (BDSF) cargo aircraft, operating as Emirates flight EK9788 and owned by ACT Airlines, was destroyed after veering off runway 07L during landing at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
The plane reportedly struck a ground service vehicle before coming to rest in the sea. Tragically, two ground personnel were killed in the impact, while all four flight crew members survived and were rescued.
The aircraft, registered TC-ACF, was manufactured in 1993 and powered by GE CF6-80C2B1F engines. It had departed from Dubai World Central–Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) and was conducting a cargo flight to Hong Kong.
Authorities from the AAIA are investigating the accident. Early reports indicate that information currently available is from news and social media sources, pending official confirmation.

Man Sentenced for Vandalizing Graves of DUI Crash Victims

A 27-year-old man has accepted a plea deal after repeatedly vandalizing the gravesites of two victims killed in a New Year’s Day 2021 drunk driving crash.
Authorities say Brian Rodriguez recorded himself in June 2023 as he spray-painted and maliciously damaged the tombstones of Andres Zacarias and Jenser Salazar, who died in the crash along West 79th Street and West Flagler Street. Surveillance cameras at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North Cemetery captured Rodriguez at the site multiple times, confirming he vandalized the gravesites on five separate occasions.
Rodriguez was later arrested and pleaded guilty. On Friday, he was sentenced to 30 days in county jail, followed by 24 months of house arrest with mandatory psychiatric evaluations. The judge warned that failure to comply with the conditions could result in up to 10 years in state prison.
“I’ve read [the doctor’s] report, and if it weren’t for that report, I would not have accepted this plea deal,” said Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Carmen Cabarga.
During the court proceedings, the victims’ sisters were present, confronting Rodriguez—something they had waited three years to do.

Teen Given Indefinite Hospital Order For Hacking Rockstar Games Using Amazon

An 18-year-old hacker, diagnosed with autism, who exposed early footage of an upcoming Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game, has been given an indefinite hospital order.
Arion Kurtaj, associated with the global group Lapsus$, played a significant role in their cyber assaults on major companies like Uber, Nvidia, and Rockstar Games, resulting in losses close to $10 million for the affected firms. The judge emphasized that Kurtaj’s proficiency in cyber activities and his intent to engage in cybercrime pose an ongoing high risk to public safety.
He is slated to remain under secure hospital care indefinitely, unless medical professionals determine he no longer poses a threat. The court revealed instances of Kurtaj exhibiting violence while in custody, with numerous reports of injuries and property damage.
Due to his severe autism, doctors found Kurtaj unfit to stand trial, prompting the jury to assess whether he committed the alleged acts, not focusing on criminal intent. A mental health evaluation during the sentencing hearing highlighted his persistent intent to resume cybercrime, describing him as highly motivated.
While on bail for hacking Nvidia and BT/EE, Kurtaj, under police protection at a Travelodge hotel, continued hacking, executing his most notorious breach into Rockstar, the company behind GTA. Despite having his laptop seized, he ingeniously exploited an Amazon Firestick, his hotel TV, and a mobile phone to steal 90 clips of the unreleased Grand Theft Auto 6.
Breaking into the company’s internal Slack messaging system, he issued a threat, declaring that if Rockstar didn’t contact him on Telegram within 24 hours, he would release the source code. Subsequently, he shared the clips and source code on a forum using the username TeaPotUberHacker, leading to his rearrest and detention until trial.
