Embarrassed by Night

Now that the shock has somewhat worn off, we want to say goodbye to our brother and regular collaborator Alex Duong, who LOVED being Vietnamese. The first photo is from an early email exchange requesting a Paris By Night-style headshot for our first-ever show. That's the Jpeg he immediately sent back, having understood the assignment 100%. Over the years he stayed a warm, supportive, hilarious presence in EBN and in our lives. It was so fun to just f**k around with the guy even outside of showbiz. He loved pitching ideas, promoting the culture, and he especially liked when our hosting bits would bomb (often Fred's).
He often spoke so highly on the strength of Vietnamese women, especially his wife Christina and daughter Everest, who are now in a very tough financial situation after Duong's passing. If you want to support them however you can, the gofundme is linked in our bio.

Alex Duong and his IMDB credits will be laid to rest at a memorial service at Hollywood Forever Cemetery April 17th, 12-3pm.

🎸Onbar is an artist of life. His love for creativity comes naturally as he takes everything around him as inspiration to create his songs. His artist name was born after nearly a decade of working at a coffee shop. Being “on bar” refers to the person making the drinks. As he was slingin' espresso, he thought “Onbar” sounded like a cool stage name. From that moment on, Onbar would practice singing and dancing during his shifts and everyone in his shop would simply vibe to it.

🎧 Danny “DANDIGGITY” Le is a poet, arts advocate, and public librarian based out of San Jose, California. Since 2001, he has written and performed works revolving around pop culture, the human condition, and his own first-generation Vietnamese-American upbringing. He has worked with lifestyle brands, arts organizations, and creative entities locally and abroad. When he’s not busy paying the bills, he enjoys curating music under the moniker DJ Luv ‘N’ Yêu, designing zines and shirt graphics, and traveling to new countries.

🗣️ Quỳnh-Mai Nguyễn is a multidisciplinary social practice artist, poet, creative producer, community organizer, and musician based in San José, CA. She has an imagination that dares to transform and nurture the world around her through her stories, art, design, and civil interactions. Her writing has a quiet strength that is both tender and fierce with narratives driven to preserve the stories of her family, identity, and experiences. When she’s not writing, she’s creating community spaces and projects including: The Name Dictionary; Lips Uncurled, Eyes Forward - an AAPI social art exhibition, and Lunar - a Lunar New Year art exhibition to name some. She is a co-owner and Creative Director of Art Builds Community, a MALI alumni, a 2020 880s Emerging City Champion, and a KQED Arts Bay Brilliant recognized cultural worker in the Bay Area in 2018.
