A huge thank you to for the wonderful article about Rogue Farms and the work we're doing to uncover overlooked food-producing spaces across the city. ❤️

One of the most common messages we've received since the article was published has been:

"Can you use my yard?"

Maybe!

We're always looking for opportunities to grow, harvest, and share more local food, but not every space is the right fit. Here's what we typically look for:

🍎 Existing fruit trees, berry bushes, nut trees, or edible perennials. The weirder the better! Pawpaws, serviceberries, elderberries, mulberries, quince, hardy kiwi, and other unusual edibles are especially exciting. Existing food-producing spaces are our highest priority since we may be able to harvest from them this season.

☀️ Sun — how much direct sunlight does the space receive?

🌎 Soil — healthy soil makes a huge difference. If you're unsure, that's okay.

💧 Water access — a hose, outdoor tap, rainwater system, or other reliable water source is important. Bonus points if your WiFi reaches the growing area so we can automate irrigation.

📍 Location — we're primarily interested in Toronto and nearby communities.

📏 Space — anything from a small backyard food forest to a larger underused property could be a fit.

🚶 Access — can we easily access the space for planting, maintenance, and harvest?

📅 Long-term availability — the longer we can steward a space, the more we can invest in it.
