Looking for a great team building challenge, that highlights learning skills and work habits? Here is the Paper Chain Challenge. ⛓✨

Students worked in groups of 3, with limited materials, to try and make the longest paper chain possible.

Without much direction, the students worked with one piece of construction paper, two pairs of scissors and a glue stick and had only 15 minutes to complete the task.

When the time was up, each paper chain was displayed and we discussed their experiences.

- What went well?
- Which strategies did you use?
- What was difficult?
- If we repeated the challenge, what would you change?

I then highlighted how each of the learning skills and work habits were present in the challenge. How did they collaborate? Were they fulfilling their responsibilities? Did they organize their time well? Did they take any initiative? Did they self regulate? Students were amazed with all of the connections and we had a very meaningful conversation.

Then, we repeated the challenge again and look at the difference (left compared to right).

This is CLEAR and VISUAL evidence of learning.

This is a busy time of the year, especially for teachers that need to finish up their reports. Self-care is super important! We need to take care of ourselves, in order to give our all to our students.

Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup ☕️
