Simon Fraser University has announced a historic $40 million donation from the Stephens family, led by Ratana Stephens and Arran Stephens, in support of its new medical school. The gift is the largest single donation in SFU’s history and one of the most significant contributions ever made to a Canadian medical school.

In recognition of this landmark contribution, the institution will be renamed the SFU Stephens Family School of Medicine.
This extraordinary investment will help shape the next generation of healthcare professionals, strengthen medical education, and contribute to a healthier future for communities across British Columbia and beyond.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to increasing access to post-secondary education, fostering culturally safe and inclusive learning environments, supporting mentorship initiatives, and exploring scholarship opportunities that help Indigenous learners achieve their goals.

The college also recently welcomed students from the Ballantyne Project and One Arrow First Nation to campus, reinforcing the importance of creating meaningful pathways to education and success.
