Recently I had the opportunity to meet Shakila Zareen at an event hosted at Surrey CityCenter Library. Shakila was forced to marry by her brother-in-law when she was 17 years old in Afghanistan and was r***d & beaten by her husband frequently who was 14 years older than her. She was shot in her face by her husband when she decided to go to the police who were of no help and instead laughed her off. She survived the gun violence incident and moved here to Canada as a Refugee with her mother in January.

Today, Shakila stands as a pillar of hope and strength to inspire all women. She is going to school and learns English in her free time. She inspires me to keep going and continuing to voice our concerns for issues such as Public Safety and more Youth Programs. Let's make a CHANGE together.
