I have been asked where is the most optimal place to position a microphone during online teaching. Through my own trial and error, I found the microphone to be best positioned near the height of my face and within approximately an arm’s length reach away from where I am seated. Since I do not have a microphone stand, I have engineered my own simple solution for now (mic on an elevated stool). So far, sound-wise, this appears to be the best place for it in my piano studio. Avoid placing the microphone directly on the piano itself as my students have informed me that in the past, they could hear vibration noise from the instrument.
