Topping up your AC refrigerant every year? This coil was pulled out of a 10 year old R22 system. If you are losing refrigerant, it has to be going somewhere. Some leaks can be repaired, others require replacement of certain parts and, in certain situations, a new system may be in order.

A common question when it comes to issues with older furnaces is, "Should I repair or replace?". In all honesty, that will always depend. There are so many factors to be considered so it's important to know the options to properly weigh the pros and cons.
Heat exchanger failure does NOT always mean that a replacement is necessary. The warranty you can expect is almost criminal with most manufacturers offering 20 years to life, some even cover labor.
That being said, if the furnace is fairly old there may be other parts close to expiry that could fail at any time.
The most important thing is to get proper advice so you know all of the options. (And try to get it looked at in the summertime when you don't need it...making an important decision when it's minus forty and you don't have heat is not recommended!)
