Even if your child isn’t being seen by the school SLP… that doesn’t always mean everything is on track 💭

The reality? School SLP’s often support huge caseloads across multiple schools. Many children—especially those with speech sound errors—may receive very limited therapy… or none at all unless their needs are considered quite severe.

So if no one at the school has raised concerns yet, it doesn’t automatically mean your child doesn’t need support.

✨ A helpful rule of thumb:
By age 6, children are expected to have all speech sounds acquired.

📊 Based on research from McLeod & Crowe (2018), speech sounds are typically mastered by:

• 2 years: /p/
• 3 years: /b/, /t/, /d/, /m/, /n/, “ing”, /k/, /g/, /h/, /w/, “y”, /f/
• 4 years: /l/, “j”, “ch”, /s/, /v/, “sh”, /z/
• 5 years: /r/, /zh/ (as in measure), voiced “th”
• 6 years: unvoiced “th”
