ARLEE, SASKATCHEWAN was founded by two different religious groups, the Russian Doukhobor and Russian Mennonites fleeing Russian Tsarism due to mandatory military service in 1897. There were few dwellings at first, purchasing land from the Hudson Bay Company to start farming. Times were tough at the beginning, breaking new land using only horse power and building homes using logs with bare hands and minimal tools. In 1903 the then well known Russian family the Antyufeev's, a family of 10 made their fleeing escape from Russia through Turkey which was the Ottoman Empire at that time through Italy to Canada. During their sail at sea their two youngest daughters died of diphtheria. Once in Canada they migrated to Arlee, and the village was officially formed. All that remains today is a couple residents. The Mennonite Brethren Church and Ukrainian Orthodox Church remain empty shells and the hotel that was once built is completely falling apart.

ERNFOLD, SASKATCHEWAN is a incorporated village that was founded in December of 1912. During its peak years the population was a healthy number of around 300 residents, where today only 15 souls remain to keep the memories alive. During it's history Ernfold has had a red brick school, which is now recognized by the Government of Canada as a historic site, a catholic and baptist churches, a graveyard, a hockey rink, a Lion's Club, a post office, machine shop and grocery store. Now with the constant population decline and only 15 residents the town has had to become 100% self sufficient. Monitor their own water supply with manually adding chemicals to make it potable, fixing their own roads, cutting the grass around town, fixing burnt out street lights. No children live here, so it's just a matter of time before we all kiss Ernfold goodnight.
