Saskatchewan Swallowing Diagnostics
06/21/2026
I was honoured to have been invited to present at a session entitled “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Oral Rehabilitation in Cancer Care” at the 2026 Oral Health Summit.
This topic is so important because head and neck cancer treatment can impact swallowing, speech, voice, cognition, nutrition, oral health, and quality of life, which is why patients benefit most when care is delivered by an interdisciplinary team. Many head and neck cancer patients in Saskatchewan still don’t have consistent access to speech-language pathology services throughout their cancer journey.
Consistent and dedicated team-based care helps improve coordination, preserve function, and ensure concerns are identified and addressed early.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation and to help highlight the value of collaborative care for people living with head and neck cancer.

March 18th is Swallowing Awareness Day!
Eating, drinking and swallowing are essential parts of most people’s day and the ability to do so is often taken for granted, but for some people it is not that easy.
Speech-language pathologists (S-LPs) play a vital role in providing essential evaluation and intervention services for individuals with swallowing and feeding disorders across the lifespan.
Together, let’s shine a light on the incredible work of S-LPs and the impact they have on improving quality of life. 💙
