A taste of the Prairies, on the national stage — that’s what Hearth Restaurant wanted to bring to the 2026 Canadian Culinary Championship.
“I really wanted to make something that would represent Saskatchewan, and cook something that was dear to me — something that I’ve enjoyed cooking throughout my career,” said Kevin Monych, the chef de cuisine at Hearth and the restaurant’s representative at the event. “Wanted to showcase Saskatchewan ingredients and elevate them as much as we could.”

“In coming to a foreign country with just a suitcase, to survive, there were lots of difficulties,” performer and playwright Maki Yi said. “We all have life struggles. If someone can hear my story and get some courage or find hope, that’s what I’m hoping for.”

Canadian newcomer experience on display in ‘Suitcase Stories’ – PodSask Suitcase Stories, the one-woman play written by Yi, is coming to Saskatoon presented by Burnt Thicket Theatre. The show is inspired by Yi’s first decade living in Canada, from arriving in Toronto to eventually moving to Regina and going to school.

"The Romeo Initiative" is, as playwright Trina Davies describes it, a mix of a romantic comedy and a spy thriller. The play is based on the real-life initiative during the Cold War for East German men to be trained specifically to woo West German women in order to obtain information and spy on the West.
