The body knows first. Always.

The mind shows up later, with explanations and justifications. By then, you've already been in the contracted state for a while.

Learning your body's first signal — your specific tell — is one of the most useful things you can do.

Because once you know it, you can catch the contraction early.
And the earlier you catch it, the faster the return.

What's yours? A, B, C, or D in the comments.
(Or send this to the person who needs to know theirs.)

When you move certain plants to a new environment, the leaves fall off. Flowers that were about to bloom just wither and die.
It's not failure. It's the wrong conditions.

The same thing happens in us. When our internal environment is stressed, overwhelmed, shut down - certain things simply cannot grow there. Not because they aren't in us, but because the conditions aren't right yet.

When we start to shift that - coming back into alignment, back into openness - new things begin to grow. Things we wouldn't have predicted. Things that surprise us.

Some of what we thought would bloom might fall away in the process. That's part of it too.

Your internal environment is not fixed. That's the whole point.

Asking a new question to get a new answer.

You've read the books.
You've done the therapy.
You can name your patterns by their first name.

And the pattern is still running.

This is the part nobody warned you about: insight is not the same as change.

Understanding your perfectionism doesn't end your perfectionism.
Naming your hypervigilance doesn't quiet your hypervigilance.

Tracing your people-pleasing back to its origin doesn't stop you from doing it again on Tuesday.

Because the pattern doesn't live in your understanding.
It lives in the state you're operating from.

The contracted state generates the pattern.
The expanded state doesn't need it.

This is the gap we close.
Not more insight.
A different state.

Four versions of the same thing: a nervous system that learned, somewhere along the way, that protection was safer than presence.

These aren't personality traits.
They're the shape your contracted state takes.

A or B in the comments. Or C. Or D.
Or honestly - all of the above, depending on the day.

The point isn't to fix yourself.

The point is to start noticing.

That's where the return begins.

You didn't burn out because of the work. You burned out because you walked into the work already carrying something. The exhaustion was there long before the job ever found it.

That's the part most advice skips. Rest more, set boundaries, take the vacation. None of it touches what's actually there, which is why you can rest all you want and still come back to the same weight waiting for you.

The situation inside us existed long before we got the job or are in the hard situation. The work didn't create it. It just leaned on it until you felt it.

And here's what makes this different. It isn't someone teaching at you from above. It's experiencing life together as we move through it.

No fixing, no judgment.

Just letting what's there be fully there until it can finally move.

That's the work.

Not pushing harder.

Learning to stop bracing.

This is one piece of a longer teaching from Texas.

The full conversation goes deeper into why the burnout was never about the work, and what it actually takes to come back to yourself.
