An old syrup bottle shard from 1880 - 1910

The letters are part of the word "SYRUP", if you look closely at the tail of the 'U' makes it look like an 'I') . Given the local history of Richibucto as an active late-1800s trading port for proprietary Medicine / Cough Syrup: In the late 19th century (1880–1910), generic and brand-name medicinal syrups were incredibly popular and sold heavily by coastal maritime merchants. They were almost universally packaged in thick, heavy aqua-colored glass.

The Font Style with serif tabs (notice the strong horizontal feet on the "R" and the top/bottom bars of the "I") was the precise typographic style was standard practice for bottle mold cutters between 1885 and 1905.

The "Ghost" Mold Border: You can see a faint vertical raised glass line framing the right-hand side of the "I". This indicates the piece broke right along the edge of the panel plate where the glass blower compressed the molten bubble into the iron mold tool.

I am not sure what I will be doing with this piece yet but I do enjoy the researching part, although some pieces I never really figured out and they remain a mystery for another day.
