Benji is one of the lucky ones 🍀
I truly believe that if Benji’s family didn’t find him when they did, this incredible soul would likely no longer be with us 💔
They “happened” upon Benji, and seeing his condition, they could not leave him there.
He had been repeatedly attacked by other dogs on the property, and was likely kept from food resources. Benji was severely malnourished, his coat was pelted and he had infections that needed attention. His new family negotiated his freedom, and ran Benji straight to the veterinarian.
He got a complete shave down and given what is likely his first vet care. He was very underweight, and had no muscle on his body. He is a very big boy who might need some orthopaedic consideration once he is completely healed.
I was finally able to meet Benji a month after he arrived in his new home. He was still so weak he could barely lift his head, and struggled to walk even very short distances. After his Evaluation, we waited another month to start some very easy training sessions.
We are only a few lessons in, and look at how much better he looks!! (He decided to dip in the pond before his lesson so he had some mud lol). Benji was able to do his very first public access visit today 🤩 he is a true testament to a dogs resilience and ability to forgive.
It was a little stressful getting into the new space, but once we got in, he did great! We also did a “weigh in” and Benji has already gained 16 lbs 🎉🎉
I will readily admit I nearly cried when I first met Benji. He is so gentle and sweet, how could anyone allow him to get into this state? 😔
I’m so happy for Benji and his new family. They get an incredible dog and he gets an incredible life ❤️🩹❤️
