A rainy day on the Matapedia River with Mathieu Ouellet . At only 20 years old, he is probably the youngest guide I’ve ever had the pleasure of fishing with. You’re doing an amazing job, Mathieu. Your passion, dedication, and deep understanding of Atlantic salmon fly fishing are truly inspiring.

It’s motivating to see young guides who not only possess alot of knowledge, but who also appreciate the rich history of the sport and are committed to keeping its traditions alive for future generations.

And, by the way, Mathieu also landed the first Atlantic salmon on the Matapedia this season may 22nd!

Une journée pluvieuse sur la rivière Matapédia en tournage pour un nouvel épisode de Wild Fish, Wild Places avec Mathieu Ouellet. À seulement 20 ans, il est probablement le plus jeune guide avec qui j’ai eu la chance de pêcher.

Tu fais un travail exceptionnel, Mathieu. Ta passion, ton dévouement et ta compréhension de la pêche au saumon atlantique à la mouche sont vraiment inspirants. C’est motivant de voir la relève aussi impliquée, des jeunes guides qui connaissent si bien les rivières, leur histoire et qui ont à cœur de faire vivre les traditions qui rendent cette pêche si unique.

En plus, Mathieu a capturé le tout premier saumon atlantique de la saison sur la Matapédia le 22 mai.
