If youโ€™ve ever grabbed a bar at the gym and felt ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ in the bench press, itโ€™s good to know the different uses for ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ barbells.

A ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜๐—น๐—ถ๐—ณ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด barbell is usually silver, slightly ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ and the sleeve ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜€ effortlessly. If youโ€™re grabbing this for a heavy bench, itโ€™s not the best choice. Save this for weightlifting movements like the clean, clean & jerk, sn**ch, push press or squat.

With an exercise like a ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐˜† bench press, we want as little ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ with the bar as possible to keep the load ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ถ๐—ป the same place.

Hence using a bar thatโ€™s more rigid with less sleeve spin. Power and all-purpose barbells are sometimes slightly thicker, black and the sleeve spin is much more limited.
