Love these wise words

Who Will Help the Children Who Struggle Without Educational Assistants? - SavvyMom 06/14/2019

This couldn’t be said any better. My heart and mind ache when I think of what the new school year will bring.

Who Will Help the Children Who Struggle Without Educational Assistants? - SavvyMom When deep cuts are made to education in Ontario we lose educational assistants. That fact absolutely terrifies me.

Kids with ADHD are trying to tell us something. It's time for us to listen. 05/25/2019

“Our goal as parents and teachers is to reexamine the box we are expecting our children to fit into. Standing outside of the box is not a bad thing, it is our future, but we just keep trying to squash them into a one size fits all box”.

What a fantastic read. I love the simplicity of the suggestions and the truth this article speaks.

Kids with ADHD are trying to tell us something. It's time for us to listen. We are not seeing more children with ADHD. We are seeing a new world that has caused the true symptoms of ADHD to boil over.

Last week was kinda a big deal, I had the opportunity to speak at the Parent & Child Expo in Ottawa.

This event draws hundreds of parents and caregivers from all over the city and Ottawa valley - It was amazing!

On stage I shared my family’s journey of parenting ADHD’ers and 3 key things I wish I had known for sure 5 years ago when I jumped on this crazy ride.

For those that couldn’t make it to the Expo for the live chat here is a snap shot of what I shared;

“Over the past 5 years I have learned so many lessons about who I am as a Mother and how I parent my ADHD’ers. As I reflect on our journey there are 3 things, I wish I knew for sure when I started.

1. I Know my Child Best!

Even when I think I don’t, I do. We are all given lots of advice from those that care and those that think they do. It is important as a parent to take what you need or what works from the advice and get rid of the rest. You know your child best.

2. My Child will NOT Become an Axe Murderer!

Harsh? Maybe. But when you are in the deep end it feels like the world is against you. Your family, friends, educators. Parenting through ADHD is HARD! But you and your child will get to the other side and be that much stronger for it.

3. Timing is Everything

This is a journey, not a race. Never give up. Try new strategies, go back to one that didn’t work in the past and try again. Not every strategy is a solution for you and your family. You have to keep going until you find what works for you. When you find that strategy that works and you see the results, it makes all the trial and error before it totally worthwhile.”

Where are you in your Parenting ADHD’ers Journey? Newly diagnosed? 2-5 years? 5-10yrs?

I would love to hear where you are on your journey and what is one thing you wish you knew for sure when you jumped on this parenting ride.
