Thinking about earning some extra money with DoorDash, Uber Eats, or other delivery services?
Before you hit the road, make sure your auto insurance policy covers this type of use.
Many insurance companies will not insure vehicles used for food or package delivery, even if it's only on a part-time or occasional basis. Delivery drivers tend to spend more time on the road, often in unfamiliar areas and under time pressures to complete deliveries quickly. This can increase the risk of an accident.
If you're on route to a delivery and are involved in a collision and your insurer discovers the vehicle was being used for delivery services without the proper coverage, your claim could be denied.
A quick conversation with your insurance advisor before you start delivering can help ensure you have the right coverage and avoid costly surprises later.
