This week we celebrate another first for TRR and an important milestone in rope rescue for Canada. Nouvelle Hauteur Inc. in Montreal hosted and participated in Canada’s first Level 3 Direct Entry International Technical Rescue Association (ITRA) training program — delivered by TRR’s Colin LeGrow (Who was independently assessed as an ITRA Instructor in Europe) and it concluded with an independently evaluated practical and written test by Corvus Professional 's Mike Lackman.
This is what industry advancement looks like.
As the demand for rope rescue continues to grow, the importance of credible, standardized, and independently verified certification becomes critical. This is not just a formality — it ensures that competency is real, consistent, and aligned with global best practices. ITRA aims to achieve just that. If you believe - get involved.
To meet the tight timeline and high standard, all participants had to already possess a keen understanding of rope rescue theory and have superior on rope skills. This was not a beginners program. They were already skilled industry leaders, the risk of exposing a weakness or even a failure requires bravery, confidence and the humble willingness to continuously learn.
The standard was high. The process was rigorous. And success was earned. Participants felt the accomplishment when the long 7+ hour individual evaluation process finally came to an end.
Credit to Nouvelle Hauteur for stepping up to host and support this milestone.
Credit to the participants who invested significantly — time, effort, and resources — to meet a standard. We look forward to seeing you as ITRA instructors in the future.
And credit to the evaluation process itself. Third-party verification brings accountability, transparency, and trust to the industry. ITRA has gotten this far from the work of many dedicated volunteers from across the globe. If you want to help improve - offer your time.
- “The Test Makes it Real”
At TRR, our commitment to Excellence, Integrity, and Industry Advancement drives everything we do. Supporting competency based testing processes — is part of that responsibility.
Well done to everyone involved.
