First quilt finish in what seems like forever. Finally done my - what started as having my kids organize my scraps early in lockdown (aka school/colour theory) to playing with my new templates from , and continuing to layer on additional circles when I didn’t feel the block layout was done, this quilt helped me slow down and get rid of a lot of the initial anxiety I had. All scraps, I made sure to use some of the favourites I had kicking around for the circles and 1/4 circles. I also just did a hodgepodge of a binding; started with joining bindings on an angle, then said “this isn’t any kind of properly designed quilt” so then started sewing binding together on the short edge. Just added whatever I wanted to cause no one’s gonna tell me how to sew together my anxiety ridden quarantine quilt! And I probably won’t get angry when my dog chews a hole in it (cause we all know she will). I’ll just keep adding to it. Swipe for my saucy quilt label. Quilting by - I’ll post some of the closeups later that Shelly took right after it came off the long arm.

A very unscientific explanation for the science behind natural dyeing. Water Ph matters! LOL. See that colour swatch on my container of brazilwood - that’s what colour the fabric ‘should’ be - when this came out of the pot I had that dog-doing-algebra look on my face, then thought, hmm, let me check a book and see if there’s any explanation for that. Discovery - our water is too alkaline for the brazilwood and so naturally shifts the colour. I made a note and carried on. Added a splash of vinegar into the dye, reheated and got the two colours in the second photo. The lighter was untreated, the darker pre-mordanted with alum. Can’t wait to see how these look dried!
