This morning at 8 a.m., we celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the brand-new VCA Canada Alta Vista Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Centre — located at 2220 Walkley Road, Ottawa

We’re thrilled to begin this new chapter of compassionate, specialty, and emergency care for Ottawa’s pets. 🐾

Celebrating Veterinary Assistant Week!

This week (and every week!), we’re shining a spotlight on the unsung heroes of our hospital—our amazing veterinary assistants: Lauren, Erika, Joao, and Claudia.

Veterinary assistants are the glue that holds the clinic together. They’re the first to jump in wherever help is needed—whether that means calming a nervous patient, providing compassionate support to clients, prepping for surgery, managing treatments, assisting with anesthesia, performing advanced imaging studies (MRI and CT), or staying late to make sure everything is spotless and ready for the next day.

No task is too big or too small. They work across departments, juggle a million responsibilities, and still manage to bring warmth, professionalism, and compassion to every shift.

With diverse backgrounds—from vet med programs to international veterinary experience—this team brings a wealth of knowledge and heart to everything they do. Their love for animals is only matched by their incredible work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond their job description.

Thank you, Lauren, Erika, Joao, and Claudia, for all that you do. Our hospital runs stronger, smoother, and more compassionately because of you. 💕
