The Canadian Propane Association and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture recently sent a joint letter to the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, with copies to agriculture ministers across Canada, calling for a technology-neutral approach to Canada's proposed Powering Canada Strong: A National Strategy for an Electrified Canadian Economy.

Canadian farmers rely on reliable and affordable energy to dry grain, heat livestock barns, fuel irrigation systems and keep food production running.

For many rural and remote operations, propane is not an option—it's essential.

As governments advance electrification policies, it's critical they reflect the realities of Canadian agriculture by:

· Recognizing propane as an essential, affordable and lower-emission energy source
· Supporting technology-neutral policies that preserve energy choice
· Recognizing the role of hybrid electric-propane systems in reducing emissions while maintaining reliability
· Ensuring policies strengthen—not weaken—farm competitiveness, food security and food affordability

A resilient food system depends on practical energy solutions that work for farmers across Canada.

Last week, propane professionals from across Atlantic Canada came together at the 2026 CPA Atlantic Seminar & Golf Day in Prince Edward Island for two days of learning, networking and industry collaboration.
