Ontario eBike Laws: What Every Rider Should Know
Not every electric bike being advertised online is legal for road use in Ontario.
Before you buy, here are two key rules to know:
✅ 500 watts or less is legal
❌ Over 500 watts is not legal for use on public roadways
✅ 32 km/h maximum assisted speed is legal for road use
❌ Faster than 32 km/h under electric assist is not legal for public roadways
There is also an important safety point many riders overlook. Choosing an eBike with UL 2849 certification means the electrical drive system has been tested for added safety and peace of mind.

La plupart ne sauront pas quoi répondre. Voici pourquoi c'est important :
UL 2849 teste tout le système ensemble — le bloc-batterie, le BMS, le chargeur, le vélo. Pas uniquement les cellules à l'intérieur.
Une batterie fabriquée avec des cellules Samsung haut de gamme peut quand même prendre feu si le boîtier est bon marché, les soudures fragiles ou le BMS de mauvaise qualité.
Cellules certifiées ≠ bloc-batterie certifié.
New York et la Californie exigent déjà la certification UL 2849 sur tous les nouveaux vélos électriques vendus. Le reste du pays suit.
Si votre revendeur ne peut pas vous montrer le sceau UL sur la batterie — tournez les talons.
La sécurité de votre famille n'est pas une simple case à cocher.
