Not a client's garden, but a personal project at an old apartment I installed last year. You really can make a great looking garden in any soil type! For this garden I planted directly into the salty gravel around this old maple tree and the plants responded incredibly well.

A little throwback to a project I completed back in 2017: this property in Old Chelsea, QC received quite the facelift for the entryway. This was one of my first design and installation projects. The site went from a plain retaining wall set among lawn grass to a naturalistic perennial garden. This was back before I really got into some of our rarer native species, but nonetheless I was able to make it work with some solid garden centre regulars such as Blazing Star, Black Eyed Susans and Prairie Dropseed.

Grove Avenue Project:

My first small front yard garden done on my own last summer as an independent designer! I prepared a planting scheme for this garden with the simple requirements of "low maintenance, 4 seasons of interest and something for the bees!"

Before: sandy, dusty soil full of weeds. The homeowner was continuously unsuccessful trying to establish a lawn. The rest of the photos show the garden throughout the following year, along with a few of it this spring.

No soil amendments were done aside from an aesthetic layer of mulch to help conserve the sparse moisture available on site. Hoping to get some more pictures up this year as the plantings fill in!
