A year ago, we were asked to help design an accessible ramp for the Carleton Place Library. The project turned out wonderfully, and we’re especially pleased to see it being used during the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies, allowing members of the community to enjoy a better view of the proceedings.

We were brought onto this project at the permit stage to help the owner bring it across the finish line. Our team worked closely with all parties involved to navigate the approvals process — securing permits for both the base building and each individual suite. With our support, the project successfully achieved full occupancy approval, ready to welcome its new tenants.

This building was originally a diner that we converted into a commercial retail space on the ground floor with a residential apartment above. The front façade, which had been clad in timber, was carefully stripped to reveal and restore the original brickwork, allowing us to recreate a shopfront that closely reflects the building’s original historic appearance.

INTERNATIONAL NELSON MANDELA DAY

Ignite Architecture was warmly invited to join the South African High Commission on the 18th of July to celebrate International Nelson Mandela Day. We were received by Ms. Nadia Thelusmon, Program Coordinator, and Rev. Joseph Kiirya, who provided a guided tour of the Stepstone House facility.

In support of the initiative, we volunteered by helping to clean the garage and yard of the shelter. We are so proud to have been included in this act of kindness to celebrate our great mentor, Nelson Mandela.

The United Nations officially declared 18 July as International Nelson Mandela Day in November 2009, in recognition of Mandela’s enduring legacy. The day commemorates his 67 years of service devoted to justice, equality, and the advancement of human rights.
