Another basement renovation completed by Maple Home Improvements! The client contacted MHI to assess an issue they were having with mold growth on the bottom of the basement walls. After assessing the space, it was clear that demolition to the studs was required. The basement was sealed off from the rest of the home, and demolition was quick and without complications.

The next step was to spray the area with a bleach free mold killer. I filled a pump bottle with the product and sprayed the whole space twice. Concrobium Mold Solutions 👍!

Time to start insulating the walls. 24” batts were used to fill the stud spaces, and the insulation along the rimboard was replaced. A 6mm v***r barrier and tuck tape were used to seal off the basement walls. Next step Drywall!

I always install my drywall vertically. This way, I limit the amount of work I have to do with the mud and tape by only having to tape the tapered edge of the drywall. The whole process went off without a hitch.

Lastly was the finishings. Paint, trim, ceiling tile, flooring and cleanup! It took a few coats of paint to get the dark blue to disappear, but we got it!

Curious to know what paint people prefer to use to cover dark colors like this?🧐

Another happy Maple Home Improvements client, and on to the next one!

Garden update, August 19th, 2025.

-Tomatoes are being picked by the arm full on a daily basis. Having our first sauce tonight!!
-Carrots, Beets, Zucchini continute to grow, and were picking them more and more for pickling.
-Our one Pumpkin of the year this year was volunteer (we didnt plant it)
-The Tarragon and Oregano have been dried and work great on tomato salads, sauces and more.
-I harvested all the cabbage to limit any potential bug or rotting issues.
-My Purple Beauty Peppers are growing super well on one plant, and the others must be just watching in amazement, because they aren't 😅.
-Our Patty Pans have been for a trip to the gym, and have swollen up big time this year! Can't wait for our vegetarian butter chickens.

Overall the flower garden has been another success, but our sunflowers are just incredible! It brings us so much joy in the morning, and makes for an amazing foreground when watching sunsets!

Great year so far, and its not done yet!

Its been a great year so far in the Veg/Fruit garden. In previous years, we would go to garden shelters (garden centers 😅) and buy way too many varieties of seeds (never too many). The issue there is trying to keep up with all the sowing times, soil needs, maintenance, and harvest times to name a few. This year, we've taken a more focused approach, only growing what we know will grow, and what we know we will eat.

Tomatoes were a non starter last year. With blight and septoria killing any chance of tomatoes, even after buying starters mid way through the season. This year is a much better outcome. Trimming the leaves on my tomato plants to allow for increased air flow, watering the base of the plant only, and meticulously weeding to make sure they have the best shot at success.

This year we have Tomatoes, Potatoes, Peas, Asparagus, Oregano, Teragon, Carrots, Beets, Cabbage, Peppers, G*i Lan, Strawberries, Raspberries, Mints, Patty Pans, Butternut Squash, Tromboncino Squash, Zucchini, Ground Cherries, Apples, Sour Cherries, Plums, Pears, and Rhubarb.

We call this a more focused approach. 😅
