Here are a few examples of how the Stem Cell Patient Fund helped patients in need in 2025:

An elderly patient could not afford the cost of travel to Ottawa for their stem cell transplant. Without a private pension plan, and borrowing from family for their multiple therapy-related expenses not covered by public insurance, travel was unaffordable. We were glad to cover the cost of air travel.

A young patient receiving a stem cell transplant was facing permanent infertility resulting from therapy. The family wished to cryopreserve some of the patient’s reproductive cells with the hope that they may have a family in the future. The family did not have the financial resources to cover this expense. The Stem Cell Patient Fund stepped in and paid for cryopreservation.

A patient could not afford the cost of accommodations with in-house nursing care following their stem cell transplant. The Fund helped with this expense and enabled them to receive convalescence care.
