A big thanks to everyone who signed the petition saying that all displaced Indigenous communities are/should be welcome in Niagara Falls. The mayor and Ken Todd have both now apologized for their statements.
The work is far from done for justice for the people of Kash. They need a safe and equitable water supply that will not force them to be evacuated every couple of years. Please hold them in your prayers, especially their elders and young people, and those who have returned to the land.
In the meantime, to our friends from Kash: we love having you in our church and in our community. You have brought us grounding and love and courage. You are welcome through our doors anytime.

Apology comes after controversy over comments about Indigenous evacuees in Niagara Falls | CBC News Indigenous community members and organizations say they feel targeted after comments made by a former Niagara Falls administrator and current Mayor Jim Diodati at a June 23 city council meeting about evacuees overburdening the city.

Happy Canada Day from Holy Trinity Thrift Store🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Here's Rev. Allison's sermon from Sunday about welcoming others as Jesus did, and what that means for standing alongside our friends from :

There was a troubling article in the Niagara Falls Review yesterday which complains about our friends from Kashechewan Cree Nation, who were forced to evacuate here more than five months ago.
The Anglican Church in Niagara Falls condemns this article in the strongest terms. The Indigenous people of this land have more of a right to walk our streets than any tourists. As far as we are concerned, all Indigenous people are welcome in our city for as long as they need or wish to be here.
This land does not belong to us. It was stolen from the Neutrals, the Mississauga, and the Haudenoshonee peoples. We made treaties with them to care for one another. It is ironic that the week of Canada Day, an article would be published which casts such shame on the ability of settlers to uphold our end of the treaties.
Please sign and share widely to say that we will not be defined by anti-Indigenous racism in Niagara Falls. Our Indigenous neighbours are welcome here.

Yesterday, Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally apologized for the church's role in forced adoption practices. It is fitting that this comes just a few days before the National Indigenous Day of Prayer.
For too long, we have believed that apologizing is a denial of the legitimacy of the church. Quite the opposite: each time we face the injustices of our past, and move toward reparations in the present, we grow more like Jesus and closer to the church the world needs.
We are made up of real humans, my friends. We've done some terrible things in the name of Jesus. Holy One, forgive us and mould us into justice-loving servants of all your people. That's the church I want to be part of.
