During and after the Cold War, professionalism and insurance policies with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires dictated that commissionaires' patrols follow a predetermined schedule and route. From the late 1940s, some used a watchclock and key system, like this, to produce a record of patrols. Arriving at designated stops, commissionaires inserted the station key into the watchclock, which created an impression on the paper dial within. This proved that the schedule had been followed.
