Sumac Restaurant

Today, we’re sharing some very difficult news about someone who means so much to all of us at Sumac.
A short time ago, Raquel’s (our chef and owner) youngest child, Iver, an incredible 5 year old boy, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.. He has already begun chemotherapy and is facing a long journey of treatment ahead. As you can imagine, Raquel and Stefan have stepped away from work to be by his side every step of the way. They are incredible parents.
Raquel, our owner and executive chef has been absolutely crucial in shaping our small restaurant into what it is today. She has touched every idea and recipe, she has trained all of our wonderful kitchen team and been an incredible partner in a challenging business for over 12 years. If you’ve visited Sumac, Raquel has influenced every aspect of your experience. From recipes, to ex*****on to selecting the Mario Kart Montreal Metro Map, Raquel and her family supporting her have helped to make your experience special. She is a friend, mentor and overall incredible support to so many of us, and an important part of our community.
We’re asking our community to come together to support Raquel, Iver, and their family during this incredibly difficult time. We’ve linked a GoFundMe in our bio to help ease some of the financial burden of day to day life so they can focus on what matters most: Iver’s care and recovery.
