my mind tends to play catch up with my spirit. last week in therapy, i was working through this feeling of excitement related to a new sound based inquiry i am researching. but that excitement is tinged with grief, and i couldn’t quite place why.

with some prompting, the usual culprit surfaced: my relationship to the music industry. the exciting inquiry is seemingly at odds with the “music industry” and won’t fit nicely into a category that the industry can validate or resource.

this brought me to interrogate what it is to be a disappointment to myself and others - both the grief and joy that a label of disappointment can hold. then i realized, wait, i think i wrote a song about this…
