Chez Boris
I had my first cry in a long time today. Surprisingly it wasn't triggered by the horrors of Russian aggression. I just saw a picture of a young Russian woman about to get arrested. I can't stop asking myself: if I stayed there... Could I be as hopelessly brave as her? Чувствую позор. ❤️@🇺🇦

From my new home in Baltimore. The good people of Clavel showing humility and sharing their hearts and pain. What they are saying and feeling is common to many people all around the world right now. Worth reading so we can stand in the shoes of others.
Chers amis/Dear friends:
First, wash your damn hands // se laver les mains.
Second, in times like this please support small local businesses and the employees that are the life lines of these businesses. Chez Boris has been closed for nearly 3 years but I know the pain and the fear that the owner and staff of your local cafes and restaurants are going through right now. They have incredibly little safety nets and many of them might not be able to re-open after Corona passes by. Please help them

Joseph Rosen, a Chez Boris regular, a true Mile-Ender, and a friend wrote a wonderful thought provoking essay on "The Bagel Question". Open, nuanced, and honest debate is the best way to address the real challenges that face our changing and complex cities. I encourage everyone to read and debate this article.
This passage struck me: "Sure, we need clean air. But human health also requires a sense of belonging. And this is just what felt threatened by the wood-burning ban."
The death of the Montreal bagel? To clean up its air and its image, Montreal is taking aim at the wood-fired ovens that make its most iconic food – and risks erasing part of what makes the city special
