Here is some video footage from our recent Mock Evacuation training exercise in Kouchibouguac National Park.
Our members had the opportunity to get hands-on practice conducting site-to-site and accommodation-to-accommodation clearance operations throughout the park, while our overhead staff worked through challenges in a controlled setting focused on mapping capability, coordination, and real-time troubleshooting.
Our thermal drone teams were also able to conduct long trail clearance operations while continuing proof-of-concept work on the use of thermal technology for hotspot identification and locating park attendees in low visibility environments.
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the RCMP and Parks Canada on this valuable training exercise. If the need ever arises, Ground Search and Rescue is prepared to support far more than traditional search operations.

This weekend, members of TCGSAR, alongside Parks Canada Visitor Safety staff from Kouchibouguac National Park and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, came together in preparation for the upcoming forest fire season.
Building on previous classroom sessions and table top exercises, members participated in a simulated evacuation exercise within Kouchibouguac National Park. While ground teams carried out evacuation operations, overhead teams worked on live GPS tracking, CalTopo map overlays for enhanced situational awareness, and estimating how long real-world taskings could take during an actual emergency response.
Exercises like this help strengthen interoperability, communication, and coordination between agencies before large-scale incidents occur.
