"I feel like I'm starting over"

Something ends. A relationship, a job, a move, a career change. And the story that shows up is that you're back at zero. Like none of it counted and you have to build everything from scratch again.

But you don't, actually.

You have everything you learned getting to that point. You've gained knowledge and experience. You've learned what matters to you. What doesn't. What you're willing to compromise on and what you're not. All of that doesn't disappear just because something changed or didn't work out.

So if you're in a "starting over" season right now, I'd just offer this. You're not starting from scratch. You're starting from experience. Those are two very different places to begin from.

We don't give enough credit to people who try and fail.

We celebrate the promotion, the successful business, the offer that got accepted, the goal that was achieved.

But what about the person who applied and didn't get the job? Started the business and it didn't work out. Had the difficult conversation. Took the chance. Put themselves out there.

Those stories matter too.

Failure often gets a bad reputation. We treat it like proof that something went wrong, when more often it's proof that someone was willing to do something uncomfortable.

Most people never even get far enough to fail. They stay in the planning stage. The thinking stage. The maybe someday or what if stage.

Even when things don't work out the way you hoped, you rarely walk away from failing empty handed. You learn something. You gain experience. You find out what works, what doesn't, and what you're capable of.

That's why I think trying deserves more celebration than it gets. Not because every risk pays off. But because every genuine attempt changes you in some way. And that's never a waste.

I'm sure you can think of something you tried that didn't work out the way you planned, but you're still glad you did it. Keep trying.
