Did you know......?

The longest word in any of the major English language dictionaries is: pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

This is a lung disease contracted from the inhalation of very fine silica particles, specifically from a volcano; medically, it is the same as silicosis which is somewhat easier to say!.

Did you know even native speakers sometimes get confused between the verbs TO LAY and TO LIE?

TO LAY means "to place something down flat," while TO LIE means "to be in a flat position on a surface."

An easy way to remember the difference is that TO LAY (with an A in the middle) is to PLACE (also with an A in the middle) whereas TO LIE has the same middles sound as to RECLINE (which is what you do when you put yourself in a somewhat flat position - think that big comfy chair called a RECLINER).
