Hearing plays a much bigger role in a child’s development than most people realize.👂🏽
It supports how they learn new words, follow instructions in the classroom, and build confidence in social situations with other children.
When hearing is reduced, even in small or inconsistent ways, such as with mild or intermittent loss, children may still pick up sounds but miss important parts of speech. Over time, this can affect language development, reading, and school performance.📖
What often makes this tricky is that the signs can look subtle at first. A child may seem distracted, ask for repetition more often, or struggle to keep up in group settings without anyone immediately thinking about hearing.
If you have noticed any concerns about your child’s hearing, attention, or speech development, a pediatric hearing assessment can be a helpful first step in understanding what is going on and what support may be needed.💜

Many parents describe the same thing in slightly different ways. “They heard me, but it didn’t land.” And that’s actually a really important observation.🗣
In many cases, the issue isn’t attention or effort. It’s processing. Some children need a bit more time to make sense of what they hear, especially in busy or noisy environments. By the time they’ve worked through it, the moment has already moved on.
When you start looking at it that way, the behaviour makes more sense. And more importantly, it becomes something we can support.
If this feels familiar, you are always welcome to reach out to our team. We are happy to talk through what you are noticing and help you decide what the next step could look like.💜

How long does speech therapy take? 🤔
It varies quite a bit depending on the child and the type of difficulty they’re experiencing. Some children make steady progress within a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support, especially when challenges are more complex or involve multiple areas of communication. 🗣
What tends to matter most is having clear, specific goals and reviewing progress regularly so changes can actually be seen and adjusted along the way.
After the first assessment, we can give you a clearer idea of what support might look like and what timeline is realistic for your child, based on their individual needs.🥰
