You DO NOT need a doctors referral to see a Physiotherapist.

We often get people calling and asking if they need a doctors referral to book an appointment. Or we hear from new patients once they come in that it took them awhile to book in for physio because they thought they needed a referral. Then due to covid they couldn’t get in with their family doctor to get one.

To see a Physiotherapist you are not required to have a doctors note.

If you are submitting your Physiotherapy receipt to your extended health insurance you may need a doctors referral for the fee to be reimbursed. However some plans do not require a referral. I know mine doesn’t. If you aren’t sure call your insurance company or look into your account online. Every plan is different.

If you do need a referral and your family doctor is either not seeing patients or is difficult to get in with, call their office. Most doctors will do a virtual or phone consult. They should be able to discuss your concerns remotely and send you a referral to get treatment.

Don’t ignore your aches and pains! The weather is improving and we are all getting more active. Which is amazing! However, this might mean new aches and pains emerge. Don’t ignore them, treat them before they become a bigger problem.

We are open regular hours and have numerous Covid protocols in place to keep you safe. Call or go online to book.

Evening and weekend appointments available. New patients welcome!

Rest and Recovery Sunday

Recovery is often something we overlook. Myself included. I am a Registered Physiotherapist, so I know why I should be resting and stretching. That doesn’t mean I am always good at following my own instructions.

Those who know me know that I am always moving and have a hard time sitting still. So one thing I really struggle with and have to consciously work on is taking the time to slow down and recover!

My back has been bugging me the last couple days. It took every ounce of my will power to NOT workout this morning.

Today I am going to focus on doing a few stretching sessions and some ice! Because the recovery is just as important as the training. Without slowing our bodies down to recover we can’t continue to grow and improve.

This stretch session was followed by a coffee and an ice pack on my back.

I’ll try to do two more of these today!

Have you done a stretch session lately? Today’s the day! Send me a message if you need ideas.
