A few things that really matter if you want the tree to take well ⬇️

First, depth matters. The collar of the tree should sit about 2 to 3 inches above finished grade. If it’s planted too deep, you can create problems before the tree even gets started.

The hole should also be wide enough. We want at least 6 inches wider than the wire basket all the way around, so there’s room for good planting soil and proper backfill.

From there, we use rich planting soil and pack it in lifts as we go. That helps with soil-to-root contact and keeps the tree from leaning later.

Last step is creating a bowl around the tree so watering is easier and actually gets down where it needs to go. 🌳

Vertical integration was always the goal! We wanted more control over the trees going into our projects. Cost, quality, availability, and timing.

🌱 So in 2020, we started our own nursery in King City. Now we have another farm in Uxbridge.

These trees will end up in parks, along streets, at entry features, and on trail systems across the GTA.

This year, we dug 1,000 wire basket trees and brought them back to our yard in Markham, where they’ll be maintained and sent out to projects as needed. 🌳

It’s a lot of work behind the scenes, but it gives us more control from the start of a project right through to the finished landscape.

Bigger loads.
Less downtime.
Get through rough terrain.
Dumping on slopes.
Faster dumping.

Just bigger, faster, BETTER. 😏 Do you agree?
