Two high school research papers from ICTHS just earned presentation slots at the FIRA RoboWorld Cup Summit 2026 in Markham, Ontario.

The FIRA RoboWorld Cup and Summit is an annual international robotics event. The Cup is the competition side where teams race autonomous robots in sports and challenge leagues. The Summit is the research conference held at the same time, where papers on robotics and AI get presented.

These ICTHS papers fall under the U19 High School category. Winning entries can get indexed in IEEE Xplore, a leading global library for engineering research.

The student researchers are Jacob P. Magtoto, Julian Lorenzo V. Yutuc, Xander Gabriel S. Pacat, Celine Kirsten C. Mercado, Bernize Lexine M. Angeles and Arianne P. Espinosa. Coaches Gerald D. Baking, Regie B. Ocampo and Kristelle Joy H. Manalili guide the teams.

These young researchers represent ICTHS and the Philippines on the world stage. The event runs July 17 to 21 at the Markham Pan Am Centre and York University Markham Campus.

Philippine immigration authorities arrested a 72 year old Canadian flagged as a child s*x offender in Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit operatives took Orville Frank Mader into custody on June 30 in Barangay Caingin after Canadian authorities alerted them and canceled his passport.

Records show he was apprehended for s*xual offenses against children in 2016 and 2022. Canadian officials also linked him to similar crimes in Thailand and Cambodia dating back to the early 2000s.

Mader entered the country in 2015 as a temporary visitor but remained without extensions and became an overstaying undocumented foreign national.

The operation supports the ShieldKids campaign and follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's push to strengthen border security.

Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the BI will never allow foreign predators to stay in the country and works to protect Filipino families through intensified operations.
