🌱 Fresh Garlic Scapes Are Here! 🌱

If you’ve ever wondered why we pick the curly green shoots from our garlic plants, here’s the reason: these shoots, called garlic scapes, are the flower stalks that hardneck garlic plants produce in early summer. We remove them so the plant can put more energy into growing a larger, healthier garlic bulb underground instead of producing flowers and seeds.

The good news? Nothing goes to waste! Garlic scapes are a delicious seasonal treat with a fresh, mild garlic flavour that’s less intense than mature garlic cloves.

Ways to enjoy garlic scapes:
🧄 Chop them into stir-fries and pasta dishes
🧄 Grill them whole with a little olive oil
🧄 Add them to soups, omelets, and salads

Easy Garlic Scape Pesto

Ingredients:

* 10–12 garlic scapes, chopped
* ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
* ½ cup nuts (pine nuts, walnuts, or sunflower seeds)
* ½ cup olive oil
* Juice of ½ lemon
* Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Place garlic scapes, cheese, and nuts in a food processor.
2. Pulse until finely chopped.
3. Slowly drizzle in olive oil while blending until smooth.
4. Add lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
5. Serve on pasta, spread on sandwiches, or use as a dip for vegetables.
