During the winter thaw, it’s a great opportunity to briefly pull back a small section of your safety cover in the deep end of your pool and add a small amount of chlorine and/or algaecide (Formula 500) in a few areas. As temperatures fluctuate during late winter, sunlight and mild weather can encourage early algae growth under the cover. Adding a small treatment at this time helps maintain proper water conditions, prevents algae from taking hold, and can significantly reduce the amount of cleaning and chemicals required at spring opening. Taking this simple preventative step often results in a clearer pool and a faster, easier opening in the spring.
