Ann Reeves Jarvis (1832–1905) was an American social activist and community organizer whose humanitarian work in Appalachia inspired the creation of Mother’s Day. Through her “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs” and reconciliation efforts during the U.S. Civil War, she became a model of civic compassion and maternal leadership later honoured by her daughter, Anna Jarvis.
