Queens General Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to announce the arrival of the new Bariatric/Cuddle Bed for QGH. This project was a joint effort between Prince of Wales-Zetland Masonic Lodge of Milton, The South Shore Bariatric Palliative Care Society, Greenfield Sewing Circle and QGH Auxiliary. The bed is shown below with the handmade quilt donated by The South Shore Bariatric Palliative Care Society and representatives of each groupl
This is a bed that can comfortably accommodate both larger patients, and palliative patients with a loved one. Often when a patient is very ill, the closeness of a loved one can be an enormous comfort—hence the term “cuddle bed”!
The mattress on this very special bed is designed to keep patients comfortable, and the bed includes a “trapeze” so that patients can lift themselves. It also features electrical outlets for charging devices etc. and comes with a battery backup. The super-wide mattress comes with two bolsters that can be removed, converting the bed to a normal size. The manufacturer is Umano Medical, a Canadian company.

Pictured below are Muriel Robar, Greenfield Sewing Circle, Sally Oliver, SS Hospice Palliative Care Soc., Trudy Johnston, SSHPCS, Nancy Miller, Greenfield Sewing Circle, Jennifer Clattenburg, Assistant QGH Manager, April Klassen, Site Leader Health Services Manager, QGH, Ruth Anne Zwicker, SSHPCS, Wayne Smith, David Freeman, Dennis MacKinnon, all from Prince of Wales-Zetland Masonic Lodge, Karen McGee and Linda MacKinnon from QGH Auxiliary.
